Lessons of 2017

I’m big on reflecting on the year that’s been and finding out what that 12 months has given to me.

A friend recently called my 2017 as ‘tumultuous’, meaning amazing and terrible all in one. They nailed it. There have been some amazing highs and some absolute trainwreck moments.

As I stood back on 2017, these are the biggest lessons of this year.

1. You have to be in the room

I’ve taken so many opportunities this year that came from the chance encounters. I’ve ended up interviewing famous entrepreneurs, ended up on interstate flights, hugged Gary Vaynerchuck and Mia Freedman, I’m a Thankyou. impact partner, been interviewed alongside Jim Rohn and Valarie Jarrat. None of these things fell into my lap, they came because I took the opportunity, got myself into the room and then kicked some ass while I was there.

2. You are capable of doing far more than you ever imagined

I did a course and three months later, I handed over a manuscript of my first book. In a million years I never thought I would be able to do that.
I learned to do 100 push ups
I cut carbs and sugar and I am on my way to losing the weight I don’t want.

3. You need to get your ass handed to you every now and again

This year has been incredible to me made a $10,000 mistake. I had a once in a million injury and ended up on crutches and with glass in my foot with surgery. I drank too much. I made bad decisions.
Getting your ass handed to you every now and again is character building. Remember: a bad day for your ego is good for your soul.

4. Have a high standard of the people you have around you

You are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. You are only ever going to be equal to them. You need to cut the doubters and the people who aren’t in your corner. You shouldn’t be justifying what you are doing with your life.

5. Be who you needed when you were younger

A few months ago I started mentoring a young actor for free. He isn’t much younger than me, but young enough he gets to say he was born in the 90’s. I believe in this person’s talent and believe, more importantly, in his work ethic and dedication to what he wants to do.
Someone asked me why I was doing this and the answer is simple: be who you needed when you were younger. I needed someone to mentor me and I didn’t have that.

6. Live your life

Travel. Swim. Fall in love with new experiences, places and people. Love your crew. Try new foods. Get massages and pedicures. Finds hobbies you love and run towards them. Call your family regularly. Life isn’t someone that’s waiting to happen, it’s happening now.

7. Be intentional

It surprises me how many people don’t have intention behind them. Be intention. Set intentions. Set goals for every element of your life.
Intention is everything. Don’t waste the next 365 days.

8. DOWN TIME

Yesterday, I had a planned full day of work and I napped and watched bad Netflix. No regrets. My body crashed and I need to let that be. Self-care is never selfish. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself and your body.

Thank you to everyone who supported me in 2017. If you think what I’ve done before is good, wait til you see 2018 plan. It’s going to be EPIC.

Much love and a safe and happy holiday – <3
