Let’s talk about fear

This photo above was taken during my trip down Big Sur earlier in the week and let me start by saying – I am not a fan of heights, or bridges or flying.

If I had to put it all into one category I would say that I’m not a fan of being in any situation where I could fall. Control issues much?
Usually this stuff is fine. I know how to work around things and how to manage my anxiety and usually this stuff has been fine until you drive solo across the US and wind up on Big Sur, California and I didn’t really have a choice.

This damn bridge (formally known as Bixby Bridge) really pushed some buttons for me. Its height, it’s a bridge and I could definitely fall. This bridge and this part of the world is famous for so many iconic TV and movie shots – Big Little Lies, The Graduate, Turner and Hooch – it’s an amazingly picturesque bridge! Until I had to deal with it in my hire car –on the ‘wrong’ side of the road, really high up and a bridge.

But…I did it anyway.

Just before I left, someone made a comment to me that what I was doing was ‘brave’. Let me be super clear here, None of the changes I’ve done lately have been easy. They have been mess, super uncomfortable and been for a large part – scary as shit.

I sold a lot of stuff, put everything else into storage and packed a suitcase and here I am. If I had to give you my number one hack for doing this level of insane things in your personal life or your business, there is only one thing you need to know and Susan Jeffers NAILED IT. It’s going to be difficult and challenging but overall – the trick has always been knowing it’s scary and proceeding anyway.

As I reversed my little Hyundai compact up and put my car into drive, I remember taking a massive breathe at my car hi the bridge. I looked out over to the ocean and remember thinking ‘It’s so beautiful up here.’

So here I am. Just a single woman, on the wrong side of the road on the other side of the world, slightly terrified and enjoying the view.
